Migraine
Migraine is one of the most common CNS disorders affecting 300 million people worldwide. In the US, there are close to 30 million cases, 75% of which are women. Nine million women in the US suffer from debilitating migraine, and it's estimated that there are 14 million undiagnosed cases. The numbers translate into approximately 10% of the population experiencing migraine. Patients affected by migraine experience severe headaches and nausea, with symptoms typically lasting anywhere from 4-72 hours.
Current treatments are inadequate and range from a host of drug therapies to hormone treatment and nerve stimulation. Ongoing migraine management includes diet and nutritional supplements, as well as increasing exercise and avoiding typical migraine triggers, whether they be food or lifestyle-related. Despite these preventative measures, millions of patients around the globe continue to suffer from a regular occurrence of migraine symptoms. Our approach is to ameliorate the underlying mechanisms that cause migraine by using a novel therapeutic agent.
